About BrownNoise HQ
BrownNoise HQ is a small, free tool from ORBITFRAME. It plays white, pink and brown noise in your browser — for sleep, for focus, for covering the sounds of a thin-walled flat — and it does so without a single audio file: every sound is synthesized in your browser, at the moment you press play.
How it is built
The three colors are generated sample by sample with the Web Audio API. White noise is a buffer of random values. Pink noise runs that randomness through Paul Kellet's filter, a standard approximation of a −3 dB/octave spectrum. Brown noise feeds it into a leaky integrator for the defining −6 dB/octave slope. Each color is normalised to the same RMS level (0.22) so the mixer compares spectra, not loudness, and buffers loop every ten seconds with a crossfade so there is no click. The same generator code renders the 60-second WAV exports. We checked the math offline before publishing: at 44.1 kHz the measured octave slopes of the shipped generators are about 0, −3 and −6 dB per octave for white, pink and brown respectively.
What we do not claim
Steady noise is a masking aid. It is not a treatment for insomnia, tinnitus, ADHD or any other condition, and nothing on this site should be read as medical advice. Where research is mentioned, it is described as it is: thinner than the marketing in this category usually suggests. If a sound on this site helps you sleep or concentrate, we are glad; if you have a health concern, a clinician is the right next stop.
House rules
No account, no uploads, no audio streaming, no tracking of what you listen to. Your mixer settings are stored only in your own browser (see the privacy page). The core player will stay free; a Pro tier is previewed in the footer as future plans only — nothing is sold or charged today.
